Discovery: Brooklyn Navy Yard

We are always inspired by entrepreneurs and other growing businesses.  This week, I was invited to visit The Brooklyn Navy Yard.  I know it is critical for USA to keep the manufacturing industry thrive but I was not aware that such a large development in a prime Brooklyn location was dedicated to the manufacturing industry.  (http://brooklynnavyyard.org)
The Brooklyn Navy Yard (the Yard) is located on Brooklyn’s waterfront between the Williamsburg and Manhattan Bridges and surrounded by DUMBO/Vinegar Hill, Fort Greene and Williamsburg sections of Brooklyn. An amazing location!  The development is heavily subsidised by NYC to support the local manufacturing industry.

It is now home to over 330 businesses employing more than 7,000 people in the manufacturing industry. Its 300 acre waterfront site is simply impressive.

My friend Annie, the Vice President of Leasing gave a sneak preview of Building 77, the largest development project that will contain a public food hub, which can be enjoyed not only by the BNY tenants but also the local community.

There is a huge variety of businesses within BNY, including a fish/seafood company, beer brewery business, jewelry/fashion business & furniture business.

As a design & manufacturing brand, it was encouraging to see many small businesses are now growing to take up a lot of space and giving back to the community by creating employment opportunities.  We hope that one day we can be part of this local New York manufacturing community!
